Here are some basic Las Vegas travel tips that newcomers to the city should think about before their trip:

  • Tipping: Most customer service positions in Las Vegas pay little, making tipping very important. Although there are a variety of ways to get the dealer in on the game while playing just about everything, if that makes you uncomfortable, just throw down 5-10% of your winnings as a tip. Waitresses usually get $1 (in cash or chips) for each drink; shuttle bus drivers about $2 per bag; Bellman $1-$2 per bag; maid service $5 per day; room service $3-$5 per order; buffet waitress $3-$5; and cabbies get 15 % of the fare.
  • Use Remote check-in while waiting for your bags at the airport. This will enable you to go straight to your room upon arrival at your hotel.
  • Drink plenty of water while visiting Vegas. Many people do not realize how dehydrating the desert can be and often wait too long in between drinks, which can be dangerous to your health.
  • Always remain mindful of your purse or wallet. Be especially vigilant of pickpockets during crowded shows and street amusements.
  • Always use the extra deadbolt while in your room.
  • Never leave large amounts of cash in your room.
  • Never walk away from your bags at the airport or in a hotel lobby.
  • Always use the crosswalks while on the Strip. Not only is it safer it is cheaper. Jay walking in Las Vegas carries a $100 fine!
  • Carry a photo ID at all times, especially when gambling since the house is prohibited by law in releasing winnings without it.
  • Ignore the smut peddlers. While walking the Strip you may be handed brochures or cards for everything from massages to more intimate services. Never talk with these people (especially to voice your opinion on their business activities) – simply keep walking.

Keep these Las Vegas travel tips in mind when visiting the city and find yourself enjoying a hassle-free travel trip.
