When you think of Las Vegas, you may think that all a visitor does is sitting in a casino or a show all day, but that simply is not the case. There’s plenty to see and do in this exciting city. If you are a newcomer to Las Vegas, be sure to check out these sightseeing in Las Vegas ideas:

• Nevada Test Site Historic Center (2621 Kosee Rd., 702-295-1000): a great place to check out to learn more about the history of our nation’s nuclear weapons development program. It is an interesting museum that discusses the various testing procedures done at the site in the 1940’s and 50’s.
• Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort ( 500 E. Washington Ave., North Las Vegas, 702-486-3511), is often called the birthplace of Las Vegas since it was the first building erected in 1855 by Mormon missionaries.
• The Hartland Mansion (525 Park Paseo Drive, 702-380-6939), is a Historic Home Landmark which offers great tours for the history buff.
• Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area (702-515-5330), is a National Park offering a great place to go to get away from the lights and sounds of downtown Las Vegas. The park offers some of the most beautiful color rock formations in the desert as well as various hiking trails and 13 miles of scenic drive tours.
• Mount Charleston (Robbins Roost Trail, Nevada), a quiet retreat for those who love the outdoors, this 12,000 foot high mountain offers a variety of outdoor activities for the entire family.

Forget the casinos and The Strip, sightseeing in Las Vegas offers a whole lot more than that: it offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy what the Mojave Desert has to offer, as well as a number of history-rich attractions.
